Justly renowned for his powerful and innovative style of play, Cho Hunhyun has been one of the top players in the world for more than a decade. His success as a professional is second to none. In addition, he has won all three major international titles, a feat that has yet to be duplicated.
Until now, however, no game collection of his has been available in English. This is Cho's first game collection of his available in English:
Cho has selected and annotated twenty games from the formative years of his career and his major bouts in the international arena against both established players and new young stars.
Within Cho's commentary one can find Cho's life view, his personal insights and his perspective on the circumstances surrounding each game & opponent. The early games include stories about the top players who influenced him, his training regimen as a student & his impressions of other young players of that period who have since risen to prominence. Included is his thrilling battle against another promising teenager of those days, Takemiya Masaki.Cho rounds out this collection with interesting and surprising impressions of the up-and-coming generation.
Perhaps the most important game of Cho's career occurred when facing Nie Weiping in the Final of the First Ing Cup. This tournament generated a tremendous amount of excitement at the time, but the story has never been told from Cho's vantage point as the victor. Other chapters include games against Kobayashi Koichi and Rin Kaiho from this tournament.
Cho rounds out this collection with interesting and sometimes surprising impressions of the up-and-coming generation. He analyzes games played against Yoda Norimoto, Yu Changhyeok and Cho's own student, Lee Changho, who has repaid his teacher's training by advancing to the forefront of the go world himself.
This unique volume fills a sizable gap in the literature of go. It offers a glimpse into aspects of the go world rarely seen outside the orient, not only with informative anecdotes found throughout, but also with an essay vividly portraying the history of go in Korea and Cho's place in it. Add the benefit derived from studying these professional games and readers will surely find this book a valuable addition to any go library.
The Windows / Macintosh OS 9 ~ Classic (under OS X) CD-ROM includes:
